Create your account and turn on two-step verification

Updated 21 October 2026 · 3 min read

Sign up with your email and a password of at least 8 characters. Then open Security, turn on two-step verification with an authenticator app, and save the 10 backup codes shown once.

Only you need an account. Your clients never sign up: they open your link, answer and download their PDF. Creating your account takes a minute, and two-step verification adds a second lock on top of your password.

Creating the account

  1. On the Fillfold home page, click Start free. On the sign-in page that opens, click Create an account next to "New here?".
  2. Fill in Your name (optional), Email and Password. The password needs at least 8 characters.
  3. Click Create my account.
  4. If you see "Almost there. Check your inbox and click the link we sent you.", open the email from Fillfold and click the link. You land in your workspace.

Next time, use Sign in with the same email and password. If you forget the password, click Forgot your password? on the sign-in page and we email you a link to choose a new one.

Turning on two-step verification

Two-step verification means that, after your password, Fillfold asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone (for example Google Authenticator, 1Password or Authy). Someone who steals your password still cannot get in.

  1. In the menu on the left, open Security.
  2. Under Two-step verification, click Turn on.
  3. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you cannot scan it, click Can’t scan? Enter the key manually and type the key into the app.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows, then click Confirm.
  5. Fillfold now shows your Backup codes: 10 codes that look like ABCDE-FGHJK. Save them in a password manager or on paper, then click I saved them. They are shown only once.

From now on, each sign-in ends with the page "One more step.": type the code from your app in Verification code and click Verify.

Signing in with a backup code

A backup code (also called a recovery code) gets you in when your phone is lost or reset.

  1. Sign in with your email and password as usual.
  2. On the code page, click Use a backup code.
  3. Type one of your codes and click Use backup code.

Each code works once. Using one also turns two-step verification off, so you can set it up again on your new phone. The Security page reminds you of this: click Turn on again to get a new set of codes.

Good to know

  • The Security page tells you how many unused codes you have left. Make new codes creates a fresh set, and the new codes replace the old ones.
  • Without backup codes, losing your phone locks you out. Keep them somewhere other than the phone itself.
  • Attempts are limited for safety: 5 backup code tries, or 10 sign-in tries with the same email, within 15 minutes. After that, wait 15 minutes and try again.
  • To stop using it, click Turn off on the Security page.
