Draft a form with AI from a short description

Updated 21 October 2026 · 3 min read

On the Forms page, open Describe it and let AI draft it, write what the form is for and what the PDF should contain, then click Draft with AI. You get an unpublished draft to read and correct.

When no template fits, you can describe the form in plain words and let AI write a first draft. It drafts both halves: the questions your client answers, and the document template that turns those answers into a PDF. It can add choices, conditions, line items and totals when your description asks for them.

Drafting a form

  1. Open the Forms page and click Describe it and let AI draft it under the name box.
  2. In What form do you need?, describe the form in a few sentences. Say who fills it in, what you need to know, and what the PDF should look like.
  3. Click Draft with AI. The button shows Drafting… this can take a minute while it works.
  4. The builder opens with the new draft and a reminder at the top: read every question, check the calculations, and open the document before you publish.

A good description is concrete. For example: "A quote request for a window cleaner. Ask for the client's name, email and address, the number of windows and whether there is a conservatory. List the lines with quantity and price, add VAT at 23%, and produce a quote PDF with my details and a signature."

Checking the draft

  1. In the Questions tab, click each question and read its wording, its type and whether it is Required.
  2. Open any calculation and check its Formula. See calculations and totals.
  3. Use the Preview tab to answer the form as your client would, on mobile or desktop.
  4. Click Document at the top to see the PDF and adjust it. See design the PDF.

The draft is never published by the AI. You publish it yourself when it is right, as explained in publish and share.

AI drafting and your plan

During early access, AI drafting is open to every account. When the plans start, it becomes a Pro feature:

  • Pro, including the 14-day trial: AI drafting is included.
  • Pay as you go: one AI draft a day.
  • Free: one AI draft for the life of the account.

Nothing changes before the plans start, and we will tell you in advance. See plans and credits.

Good to know

  • What is sent: only the description you type is sent to Anthropic, the company behind the AI. Your clients' answers are never sent.
  • Daily limit: each account has a number of drafts per day, shown next to the button. An attempt counts even if it fails. When the limit is reached, try again the next day or start from a template.
  • Email confirmation: if Fillfold asks you to confirm your email address first, click the link in the confirmation email, then try again.
  • Length: the description must be at least 10 characters and at most 1,500. A very large form may not fit in one draft: describe a smaller one and add the rest by hand.
  • Language: the questions and the document are written in the language of your description.
  • If you do not see the link, AI drafting is not switched on for this site at the moment.
  • AI can get details wrong, for example a VAT rate or a required question. You remain responsible for what the form asks and what the PDF says.

Once the draft is open, everything is editable like any other form: change question types, add conditions or fill in your business details so the PDF carries your name and address.
