What your client sees
Updated 21 October 2026 · 3 min read
Your client opens the link on any phone or computer, with no account and no app. They answer, tap Submit, and get a button to open their PDF. The download link works for 90 days, and you keep every PDF in your account.
It helps to know what the other side looks like before you send your link. Here is the path your client follows, from the first tap to the PDF.
Answering the form
- Your client taps your link. The form opens in the browser of their phone or computer. They need no account and no app.
- The layout is the one you chose under Experience in the Design tab. With Conversational, the questions come one at a time, with a Continue button. With Classic, Cards or Compact, they are all on one page.
- Questions marked “optional” can be skipped. If an answer does not fit a rule, the form says so before sending.
- For a photo or a file, your client picks one from their phone. For a signature, they draw it with a finger, or choose to type their name instead.
- At the bottom of the form, a line tells them that their answers go to the owner of the form. If you entered Your privacy notice in the Settings tab, two links follow: Privacy notice of the form owner, which opens your page, and How Fillfold handles data. Otherwise a single Privacy link opens Fillfold's page. See Publish and share.
- They tap Submit.
If you offer several languages, the form opens in theirs when it can, and a Language menu lets them switch. See A form in several languages.
The thank-you screen and the PDF
Right after sending, your client sees Thank you. followed by your Message after submitting, or “Your answers have been received.” if you left it empty.
Under it, a button Open your PDF opens their document in the browser, built from the document you designed, in their language. A line reminds them: “Save it now: this link works for 90 days.”
After 90 days, the link shows a message in their language: the link has expired, and they should ask the sender for a copy. You still have the PDF: open the response in your account and click Download PDF. See Responses: PDF and CSV.
Good to know
- The PDF is not sent by email. The button on the thank-you screen is how your client gets it, so tell them to save it.
- If the PDF could not be made, or if you turned off Generate a document for each response, the thank-you screen has no button. The answers are saved all the same.
- The link stops working earlier if the response is deleted, by you or by an automatic deletion delay shorter than 90 days. See Retention and deletion.
- Downloads are free for your clients. Paid documents are coming soon: see Paid downloads.
- To try the questions yourself, use the Preview tab, which saves nothing. To see the thank-you screen and the PDF, send the published form from your own phone: it creates a real response, which you can delete afterwards.
